Hey guys I thought you would like to see the pd2 that was bought off ebay by myself. These are some pics of a head stud that stripped out. This is the second one that has stripped out. Both were helicoiled and both pulled out. When I sent a e-mail to HWD they told me that my torque wrench was off and that the kit is a "blemished kit" and a "Second" on ebay. That is why I got 100.00 off. They told me that they would fix it but I didn't want to have it sent back and have to wait another two weeks to receive it. So to let you all know the kit on ebay from hwd are blemished products I got screwed don't let it happen to you. HWD does great work but they need to work on some customer service. I wish I had better things to say. Here are some pics of my buddies blaser who used the same torque wrench at the same setting. His came out fine. I took that one just to show that he had is top end sent to HWD.

This pic should be better. This one isn't so big you can actually kinda tell what it is.

Why did you not contact HWD productions after you had a problem with your first stud? Don't forget to include all the facts also. Even tho this was a e-bay transaction and was a used cylinder Marc told you to send it back in and he would fix what has gone wrong, but you refused. Don't try to make this look bad for HWD, just makes sure you include all the facts.

It was done in august but no one had ever fired it. So it was basically brand new. I said marc said he would fix it. I didn't feel like waiting two weeks to get it back so I had a machine shop fix the first one and then after that one was fixe I went to put it on and another stud pulled out. In the auction there was no mention of it haveing three helicoils in it. They also didn't metion that it was a blemished product as they told me afte the fact.

Regardless if it was fired or not, its still a used product. It has been bolted onto a blaster, and then off again. You can't take this out on Marc or HWD at all. He offered to go good for the work, which in my opinion I wouldn't if I was him. But him being the guy he is, he offered to make things right. I had a problem with my 240 earlier in the summer, and without even seeing the damage he went good for it, plus some for the trouble. Making comments as you did on the HWD board are highly un-called for.

Look I am not trying to bad mouth HWD or what the doc does. He does a great job on his work. Leon I understand that you had it bolted down. Obviusly they didn't do a great job at fixing them. They didn't do a perminat fix just tempoary. You can all take it for what it is worth. I was just trying to say that if you are looking on ebay it will be better to buy direct from HWD. They told me that ebay is were they sell "blemished" products. So you can all hate me or whatever for trying to look out for the rest of you guys so you don't have this kinda problem with it. What pissed me off was the way Mike acted. He acted like I shoulnd't have been mad that I paid good money for a product that needed to be fixed. SO SORRY if I offened anyone.

It puzzles people why an "engine builder " would sell a product as a " second" or a "blemished" product when the defects are directly related to the performance & operations of the engine. I could understand a little more if it was more of a "dent & scratch" or something that would effect the cosmetics of the product and not the performance. As much as Marc (HWD) prides himself on his quality/appearance of his work, I doubt that he would sell something that would blemish/hamper its performance. Thats just not the charactristic of Marc.
I am guessing that he felt that if he repaired the cylinder with a helicoil/ stud. Some people that bought the cylinder "new" would consider it as a repair and less than perfect. It's really not true but some/public would veiw it that away. So he is forced to sell it as "less" than perfect and take a small loss and probably due to an customer screw-up.. Really kind of un-fair to him in my opinion. But because of the "misunderstanding" of the public he takes a loss being good business.
Actullay, when I receive a new cylinder (racing) and because of the constant rebuild & checks I "helicoil" all the areas that I know will get high traffic when it comes to bolting/removing.If installed properly there pretty much "bullet proof" the military/aicraft industry helicoil "everything" as a standard. Buy a $5000 dollar aluminum block (SBC) most are helicoiled.
Because builders like Marck (hwd) and others like him, deal with a lot of the younger/adult. I am surprized that they offer the the product/services that they do. They offer a high performance kit send you the parts and "the buyer" is the mechanic regardless of their experience. Some havn't graduated puberty much less have the experence/capabilty of assembling a engine. Nor have a compitent parent/father than has experience to help. The first time something goes wrong "like an unseated c-clip or an air leak, broken bolts, wrong jetting, poor assembly" and problems arrive it is automatically "the builders" fault and they are pretty much backed against the wall. They either fix "your screwup" for fear that it will reflect bad and neither can they charge a few dollars for their time because again they will get a bad rap.
Honestly if you received a vigin PD2 kit that has never been ran and got a 100.00 off of the normal price for a few stripped cylinder head bolt, i feel you got a pretty good deal. There is plenty of room on a blaster between the cylinder and the edge of the bore/cylinder without problems and a helicoil is a pretty simple fix. And if stripping/breaking bolts in a properly set helicoil there are other issues wrong.
You could easily replace "all" the head bolt with helicoils in one hour, so you would be getting $100.00 of labor for an hour of your work, and I am sure that there won't be to many times that you will be getting paid like that for you time.
Don't get me wrong HWD is not a fan of myself and I am even banned from his website but I call a situation they way I see it fair
