you need to sand down your helmet and apply a primer, then a basecoat color (black or white works best). Laquer paints work best, but water-based paints work too. I use House of Kolor paints... they are the best paints I've used to paint helmets. Yes, a final clear coat will go over the whole helmet when you're finished. It's best to put a couple coats and buff it up to make it look better.

kurt, what sandpaper grit do u use to sand the helmet before painting it. what kind of primer do you apply do you apply the clearcoats with the airbrush or with laquer spray paints. Do you know another brand of paint that is easy to get and cheap. thanks

I use wet sandpaper. I think it's 1,000 grit. it's ok to use anything thats not too rough. Like 200 grit wouldn't be good. You apply the clear coat with a spray gun, yes. Use any type of car paint primer, it should work fine. Not too sure of any other brands, I've always used house of kolor.

i heard that you need to sand the primer with a wet sand so that it is very smooth and the clear coats too.
