motocross (MX) is the tracks with all the jumps. Normally there is a number of laps set for each race and the first to finish that number of laps wins. harescramblers or woods races (GNCC) are a lot longer, up to 2 or 3 hours long. These consist of woods tracks that you must follow and hit checkpoints. Instead of laps, the races are determined by time. GNCC races aren't as extreme as motocross, but you need great stamina to finish. TT races, or flat track, are a mix between dirt and concrete tracks, but the racing is set up the same with laps.

class types vary on the different race organizations and so do the rules. If you race in the C.R.A., to be legal in the Blaster Class, you have to have a blaster frame and engine, but there's no engine size limit (new rule). In the A.M.A., the engine size is limited, but the frame isn't. Which means you could throw a 200cc National Cylinder with a 3mm Stroker engine into a 250R frame and go race it.
Other classes depend on the race organization too... find out who sanctions the tracks around you and see what classes they offer.

I wnet to see a TT race here where I live which is in California. The racers had some cool looking quads and they were mostly all 4-stroke except for some Banshees and 1 Blaster. It was cool and Doug Eichner(team Kawi) got 1st place, he was really fast.
