Hi I just bought a 03 blaster new. I just got a toomey b1 kit for it and I noticed that it came with a #310 main jet. My blaster is bone stock (I've only got like 7 hours on it so this is my first mod) and that jet seems damn big from what I've been reading, like maybe it would be the right size if I had some engine work done but for just a pipe and air filter it seems too big. I was thinking like a #280 tops after reading some other posts and faqs... So, my question is for all you guys who have this pipe or know people who do. Will this jet size be alright if I have no other mods? If your not using the one that came with it, what size do you use that works good. I just want to be sure since this bike is brand spanking new

it is a little big but maybe a step lower would be perfect. if you dont install the air box vents make sure you take your air box lid off. or else it will run like shit

Sorry to stray off of topic but for those of you running a Phantom, are you guys running a 290 Main Jet without an airbox lid? What about the pilot jet? Do you leave that and the needle stock?

i installed the toomey b-1 on my stock blaster today. the performance increase was deffinetly noticable. i haven't rode blasters with anything else so i can't compare, but that pipe rocks! It sounds mean as hell too.
I used the 310 jet that came with it and it seemed to run ok. I only rode about 15min and it was dark so i haven't checked the plug to see if i'm rich or lean but i'll post back when I find out.
One thing that was wierd that I didn't quite understand it that it told me to move the needle down to the 3rd from the top and that stock the clip is in the second down from the top. well, the clip was actually in the third and there was a small white/clear washer on top of it so that the washer was in the second position and clip below it in the third so to speak. But I left it as it was since it said clip should be the third position and it was. Whats that needle do anyway? I'm pretty sure the jet size adjusts fuel to air ratio but not sure what that clip is for.
The only other thing i noticed was that at low rpm, like turning around in the driveway, it seemed to be chugging a bit, like too much gas. So, I'm not sure if the bikes getting to much fuel from that 310 jet or if that clip on the needle needs to be moved down a notch.
Anyway, when I'm on the throttle, it runs like a champ!
Thanks for the replies sean

Depending on where u live the jet size will vary. You gotta do a plug chop. When I did mine the 310 was definetly too rich I went down to a 290 and I still could come down some but I figure a little rich is better than a little lean....

From what you are saying, just leave the 310 in there, it's probably fine. The needle controls the gas in the mid-rpms. Since you are having a problem with the low rpms, you should fiddle with the air screw. It's on the left side of the carb, towards the back some. Turn it outwards a tad to make the low rpms have a little less gas.
