I have been thinking about getting my flywheel lightened. I have access to a few lathes, is this something that can be easily done or should I leave it to the pros? How do you balance the flywheel after machining? I was thinking about taking 5 oz off for all around riding. Does this seem like the correct choice?

No way man...Leave it to the pros!! You can screw up the weight balance and you will create vibration issues and may screw up the power curve etc. Send yours in to Hollywood Dirt Productions to get a professional flywheel lighting job and a ripping powerband

can u not read,
i said the engine relies heavily on the flywheel, especially the spark plug.
if he did something to it he may mess it up,
then i said send it to a pro like hollywood or cpc or whoever else does it.

i think it gives it a banshee like powerband.
like u rev it then the rpm's fall off really quick.
but its a must for motocross.

when u lighten ur flywheel does it just give the quad a meaner power band and just makes ur rpms drop quicker cuz i have a 95 blaster and it likes like 10 sec to drop to an idle

i am taking mine to a local machine shop. I am having them take off 8-10oz. Does anyone know a measurement of the amount I need to have turned off on the lathe?

a heavier flywheel would keep it in the powerband alot better, maybe for riding trails lol

A heavier flywheel will keep it in the powerband better because it will take longer for the rpms to drop after you let go of the throttle. The downside to a heavy flywheel is that it will take longer to get into the powerband. A light flywheel will allow you to change rpms rapidly and reach the powerband much faster. If you happen to fall out of the powerband, you can tap the throttle and the rpms will jump back into the peak HP range quickly.
