I am very new to the ATV crowd. I bought a 95' Blaster for $1500 (Canadian), and the bike came 100% stock except for the rear tires which are GBC Mudsharks. The bike has had ZERO engine maintance (no bore work or ANYTHING), it runs really strong and I am extremely happy with it, I am not sure if the Gaskets have been replaced or if the insides have even been looked at in a while. Do you think that it would be a wise idea to replace the engine seals and gaskets on my machine? Like I said this thing runs real strong and starts on the 2nd or third kick and runs fine. I am just unsure if the engine has had any work done on it at all. The previous owner looked like a decent person and the quad over all was in decent shape. I am going to be sinking some money into this thing in the summer but I would like to have a good solid machine first before I start tinkering with upgrades. So if anyone can list "Basic" engine maintance parts in this thread for me it will be greatly appreciated. As for my plans in the summer: 1. Project Blaster Phanthom Exhaust, 2. warrior/banshee brakes, and possibly look into some used shocks like the Banshee front. What is a shock that will actually bolt on to the rear with no modification? Or one that requires little modification? Please don't say Works because that shock isn't so cheap here in Canada P.S. I mostly trail ride and I sometimes drag with my friends. So I am not a serious racer and I don't need stuff that is the best of the best, I am jsut the typical weekend warrior

i would do a compression check, that will tell you what shape the top end is in.. if its 115lbs or lower, then rebuild the top end. if you plan on racing it, i would tear it down completly, have the main bearings and seals replaced, top end, check through the tranny, replace anything worn.. ect ect. but just for trail riding, you should be fine, depending on how hard the bike has been ridin in the past. there are no shocks from other quads that will simply bolt on with out mods for the rear. the easiest is the 250r or 400ex, i recommend the 400ex. banshee fronts will bolt on up front without mods. you will love the phantom exhuast, they are killer. (i have an LRD, but i put a phantom on my buddies blaster i really like it, and they look great to)

Hey thanks for info! Yeah, I guess doing a compression test is the only way to tell.
