How much of a difference would a 1/2" reed spacer make (placed inbetween the engine and reeds)? Would the power increase be comparable to that of having your head shaved and milled (while still running pump gas)?
Also, does adding a reed spacer go hand in hand with any other modifications? or just adding the spacer will make as much of a difference to a stock setup as it will to one with an aftermarket reed cage, carb... etc.?
Thanks yall!

well, personally, i doubt that you will even feel a difference with the spacer and if you do it will be pretty small, and it wont come close to having the head shaved and milled, i would focus on bigger modifications than a reed spacer for the time being, unless you have a small budget, but even then taking the time to save up for the bigger things is a world of difference......

The reed spacer only alters the power curve, it adds no noticable power.

like hollywood said, it doesnt add power, but it just moves the power. depending on which side of the reed cage you put it, it will raise or lower the powerband by about 300rpm.. hardly noticable. save the money and wait and get something that will actually give you a gain in power.

Most mods you do dont add power they just Change the curve. Only things that actually add to the #'s is basically Pipe & filter, and internal engine work. The rest: Spacers, Reeds, ect. They just move the power curve around.

"Simply put, the Reed Spacer improves the velocity of the air/fuel mixture entering the cylinder. The result is; Increased Mid-Range Horsepower and widening of the midrange (where most of us ride) torque = pulling power. The spacer goes between the cylinder and the reed cage."

To contradict HD, whose knowledge I grately respect. Moving the power curve around is NOTICABLE power.......it's not ACTUAL. If you drop the curve even as little as 300 rpm it will feel like more, since it will start sooner than it did before the installation. Make sense? OP

OP no, because your giving up power also. if the powerband hits 300rpm sooner, it will also drop off 300prm sooner. so you dont GAIN any realistic horsepower. your just gaining in one certian area, but also loosing in another.

what up jas....i agree where riding 2 strokes here people...the hit sooner means a drop off sooner on the top...you give a little but then loose a little. and yes the reedspacer dont give any noticable power gains in feel..maybe on a dyno in #'s maybe a 1/2 horse if that.....some claim more gains but its hard to tell. but at 20 bucks i would do it whats there to lose?
