some of you are fairly new to the hi-performance world. asI see a lot of questions on this and other boards about bolt on this and bolt on that. I try very hard not to harsh or diss anyone for there knowledge or lack of it, as we all started somewhere. the following is a bit of "motor 101" basicall an engine is a big airpump. the more air that goes thru it the more power you will have. along with this air is a little fuel to keep the process going. so simply put, you need to build a balanced motor to get the most power. a bigger carb, better aircleaner, removing the airbox lid, lets more air in. good calculated porting work lets more air pass thru, and a good exhaust lets more air out. for the best results everything must work together. along with decent compression and jetting for the "airpump" to work efficiently. the reed spacers, exact size of carb, brand of exhaust, type, gap, and heat range of the plug, timing changes, different brands of reeds, etc. all work to "fine tune" the airpump. there is no short cut to a big hp motor. everything needs to be matched and balanced as it will not do a whole lot to get a pipe and let a lot of air out, when you havent done anything to let a lot of air in..and vice versa..it also wont do much to let a lot of air in and out, without modifying (porting) the "airpump" so it can effectively pass the increased airflow. think of it another way..you can go buy really expensive shocks like I have, but you wont get much out of them untill you spend the time to dial in the compression , rebound, and crossover points. without dialing them in, you may be able to go a little faster, but yuoll bounce, swap, and have a sore butt..take a few hours and dial them in..you will fly!! have more energy later in the race, crash less, win more trophies and have more fun.

Yea make sure you all read that. It's a common problem for many beginner racers to think that a pipe and reed system is going to add more power. It may add a little, but the real performance comes when you modify the engine itself. Porting and polishing lets more flow through the engine giving you more power. That's why I recommend the Diamond Racing National Cylinder so much, because it already has extreme p&p work done.

Thanks for the lesson phragle, I have some knowledge of the motors dutys and all... I have a pipe now but with nothing else... as soon as my fall season is over I'm going to send my motor out for porting and to get stroked and get some new reeds and new carb... and a K&N air filter... thanks for another lesson phragle... You have helped me out alot in the past and I learn more from you everytime you post... thanks... I'll take this as knowledge...

u also have to run race gas mix dont u.. and im no big enough of a racer to do that so do u have a dyno chart or ur trail portin.
